Clinical Care

RFDS WA delivers aeromedical retrieval, primary health care, industrial health and dental services across regional and remote Western Australia.

We work closely with healthcare partners, including WA Country Health Service and St John WA, to help ensure patients receive seamless care wherever they live.

RFDS WA’s health services are independently assessed against the National Safety and Quality Health Services (NSQHS) Standards, developed by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Heath Care. Our remote GP services are also separately accredited by Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited (AGPAL) against the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) Standards.

Keeping you safe

Your safety is central to the care we provide. RFDS WA provides evidence-based clinical care, supported by extensive training, infection prevention practices. We monitor performance to ensure and support safe high-quality healthcare. We consider ourselves a learning organisation.

Preventing Infections

Hand hygiene and infection prevention are important parts of keeping patients and clinical teams safe. Our teams follow infection prevention principles, including hand hygiene and the use of protective equipment when required (eg. Gloves, gowns, masks).

You may be asked to wear PPE during your care, to protect yourselves, other patients and the clinical team.

How are we performing?

We regularly seek feedback from patients about the care they received. The results below show responses to the selected question from our patient experience surveys over the last four quarters.

Workforce safety training

Our teams undertake a range of training relevant to their roles to support safe, high-quality care. We monitor compliance of key safety-related training as part of our ongoing quality improvement activities.

The following are selected examples of training monitored by RFDS WA.

Patient-reported hand hygiene

We also seek feedback from patients about their observations of hand hygiene during their care.

Hand hygiene results are based on patient experience survey responses, not direct observational compliance audits.

Partnering with consumers

We work with patients and their families, and with community members, to improve the quality and safety of our services and support excellence in aeromedical and primary health care.

Our Consumer Advisory Group is one of the ways we partner with consumers. This group provides opportunities for people in the communities we serve to share their perspectives and contribute to discussions about healthcare quality, safety and service improvement.
